Genocide is currently taking place in the Gaza Strip. Innocent civilians are being bombed, displaced, and killed. Entire cities have been wiped out. There is a lack of water, food, electricity, and medicine—everything that makes human life possible. What is happening there is systematic destruction and dehumanization.
The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians has its roots in competing claims to land and statehood since the founding of Israel in 1948. At that time, many Palestinians were displaced. Since 1967, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip have been occupied – Gaza has been under blockade since 2007 and is de facto controlled by Hamas.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas carried out serious attacks in Israel, killing many people and taking hostages. This was followed by a large-scale Israeli military operation in Gaza, which led to massive destruction, tens of thousands of civilian casualties, and an acute humanitarian crisis.
Showing solidarity with the people of Palestine does not mean being anti-Semitic. It means speaking out against oppression, war, and the systematic destruction of life.
